Our only complaint was how demanding and needy and awful she was at night. right when we got home from california, lindsay trained baby to sleep. maybe four or five nights of crying, but now she sleeps soo solid and soo long. she sleeps at least 10 hours each night. thanks lindsay.

Parker and Harper (River's and Steph's)- the craziest, tag team- they're 6 days apart, but harp has parker outweighed by about 6 lbs. they do everything together.

a lot of people are into the office, dancing with the stars, whatever- park and ruby (the pike's baby) love to watch baby einstein. i'm pretty sure bombs could be going off around them, all they would hear or see are the sounds of mozart and puppets dancing on screen. obsessed.

Sometimes baby girl likes to party a little too early in the morning. That combined with her inability to sleep for more than 3 hours at night without waking up, threatens my sanity. So, when she decides to be an early bird, I let her watch cartoons while I take my time waking up. The only shows she'll watch for an entire half hour are Sesame Street or Barney and Friends. She'll settle for Spongebob if nothing else is on...

i'm a bachelor again... its been a few days already, so i'm getting pretty sick of it, but here's what i've done since lindsay and baby are in arizona:
-had my first married sleepover (at timmy's house)
-reorganized our iphoto library
-surfed trestles (got some photos)
-went to the movies with the boys (didn't have to leave my seat once!)
-put our car on craigslist
-consumed a lot of pastries and carbonation over the last few days
-boxed up our apt and shipped stuff home to hawaii
-made some boards
-sold some old boards
-registered for classes
-scrubbed all the stains out of the carpet
-wrote a big long letter to santa cruz county, explaining why i didn't show up for traffic court
-went to the premiere of quiksilver's new video about the team at gland

i've also relearned that lindsay and ambien have an inverse relationship. as the amount of lindsay goes down, the amount of ambien i take to sleep through the night goes up.
i've been surfing REALLY early, getting up is easy when you slip into a coma every night at around 7:30.

really fun weekend. sometime in the future i'll work up a little enthusiasm to write something about this trip, other than the vague "it was fun" statement. to summarize, my aunt and uncle have a beach house/beach mansion just south of rosarito in baja. almost all the raynor side of the family got together. there were quality waves in the back yard, and at least 15 eager babysitter's during the day. "it was fun"...

What do you do in 110 degree weather? Well, if you're outside for any length of time, you die of heatstroke... or you get in the pool. We spent a lot of time cooling off. Baby girl got to spend most of her time naked and free. Lucky.

Hot. Yuma is very very hot. Up until Matty's sister moved there i didn't know it existed. I thought it was just the name of a fictional place they used for the movie 3:10 To Yuma. Nope. It's real. And now having visited this lovely destination, I have no idea why anyone would want to take the 3:10 there.

We spent a few days there prior to traveling to Mexico for a bit of a family reunion. Other than the furnace-like heat, it was pretty enjoyable. We spent the majority of our time just hanging out (in A/C of course) or swimming in the pool. I was glad to have some company other than an infant during the days, (I was forgetting how to carry on a conversation with other humans), and glad that baby girl could spend some time with her cousin Thomas.

One night when matty and I were relaxing watching Arrested Development, we plopped baby girl on the floor in front of the couch and surrounded her with toys so that we could enjoy our show in peace. She soon became bored and started fussing so I leaned over to entertain her for a bit then left her to her toys and returned to my show. This happened a few times: she would get bored and I would pause the show to entertain her. After doing this three or four times she seemed to stay content. In fact, she was so quiet and content for such a long time that we forgot she was there. (great parenting, right?). We watched an entire episode without so much as a peep from her. I was about to play another episode when I remembered she was there, and leaned over the couch to see why she was so quiet. She had somehow opened the box of yogurt-covered pretzels that I had been eating earlier and was joyously sucking the yogurty/frosted coating off each and every one. There was frosting EVERYWHERE... in her eyebrows, her hair, her nose, all down the front of her clothes... a sticky white film everywhere. I'm pretty sure that if she had the language skills she'd tell you that it was the best twenty minutes of her life.

ambien...end the boredom...end it now

ambien is my staple medication when linz and parker jo are away on a trip. it was a long work day, filled with mundane tasks, and endless amounts of small talk. as soon as the work day is over, the boredom begins. no baby, no wife, no waves, no wallet, nothing good on tv.
ambien in the early evening is a delightful way to end an otherwise uneventful day without having to draw it out with six hours of tv, followed by the inevitable insomnia that comes with boredom induced anxiety.
it just speeds up the time between now and then.."now," being the moment of this photo- writing a blog post in bed, enjoying the pre sleep effects of the ambien and eating guacamole off my chest. "then," being tomorrow when i see my girls again. when i wake up, i will be meeting up with them at sea world followed by a week in mex, with swell on the way...
things are looking up. i love you wife and baby... wherever you are!

Today, like everyday, I was faced with the challenge of finding the time to get the necessary things of life done. You know, like showering. Baby girl is at the age of partial mobility, (thinks she can crawl but ends up in awkward "stuck" positions crying for me to help her), and therefore needs my constant attention. I decided to let Baby Mozart entertain her while I snuck in a shower. When I got out, I poked my head in to check on her. As soon as she spotted me, she burst into a very dramatic heartbreaking sob (tears rolling down her little cheeks) and held her shaking arms up towards me. I quickly grabbed her silky and binky, and scooped her up. As she instantly snuggled her face into my chest and closed her eyes, I thought, "Yes! Now I can put her down for a nap and finish getting ready... maybe even clean up a bit!"
But i didn't.
I couldn't.
It suddenly seemed so important that I just hold on...
My koala bear sleeping so peacefully on my chest...
It didn't matter to me anymore that my hair would air dry (and therefore look terrible for the rest of the day), or that the dishes would be left undone. I wanted this moment a little longer.
Much, much longer.
"So quiet down cobwebs. Dust go to sleep! I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep."

The airplane ride: let's just say it's much easier to fly with a newborn than a squirmy little 6 month old... luckily it was a red eye and she slept most of the time. I, however, did not.

This past week has been a bit crazy. Baby girl was a basket case for the first day or two: traveling + new surroundings + new people + missing her daddy = tired, cranky, jet-lagged, clingy baby. (being a single mom would be TOUGH.) Luckily we have been surrounded by awesome friends and family. Erin and Kyle drove down from Spokane with the newest member of the family: baby Charlotte "Charlie" Shannon, cute preggo sister Erin flew up from UT, and BFF Jimie Jo and her little one Evan drove from Boise. Miss Avery Parker has been spoiled by all the attention, and by the bits of food her Aunt Erin has been sneaking her... including some of my birthday cake.

All in all, it's been a pretty wonderful week. I've just been missing a certain someone...

asymmetrical leg rolls

If you're a baby, it's important to have symmetry of leg rolls. Just so you know. At her six month checkup a couple weeks ago, I pointed out to the doctor that she has a substantial roll in the inner crease of her right upper thigh/crotchal area (TMI?) that her left upper inner thigh/crotchal area does not share, and a fat roll/crease on her left mid-thigh that her right mid-thigh is missing. He scowled and said "Hmm...", then proceeded to manipulate her legs and hips back and forth whilst saying things like "hm... the hips feel a bit loose..." and "hm... there's still some popping in her legs...". Here I am showing all my friends how wonderful and freakish my baby's flexibility is as I fold her into a pancake... "hey look everyone! she can put her legs behind her head!"... totally unaware that this is a sign of some horrible development problem! Naturally, I immediately had visions of my poor baby girl growing up with gnarly deformed legs encased in Forrest Gump-like metal leg braces being picked on at the bus stop by all the other perfectly normal-legged children.

The doctor finished his "assessment" and said that baby girl needed an ultrasound on her hips to see if there is anything wrong, and to make an appointment at Kapiolani Hospital in Honolulu. (Yes. Apparently, ultrasounds are just too high tech for our ghetto hospital up here.) Anyway, we went down to town yesterday and got it done... The results: don't know. We have to call our doctor next week so he can get them from the hospital and look them over and then make another appointment to tell us what the verdict is. Gay.

Whatever. I think it's just a unique fat distribution.

After baby girl's ultrasound, we dropped matty off surfing and went to the mall for a little retail therapy. Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of shopping for myself... but now that I have my own real life doll to dress up, I find it highly entertaining. Her current wardrobe basically consists of onesies. It's not that i love the gender ambiguity, it's just that we're poor, and it's hot here. (and she'll eventually poop in it). However, I did find something i HAD to buy. That's right, Erin... the elephant tank top in the bottom pic. (For those of you who don't know, I like them alot. I want to own one someday. Maybe when I have a bit more room...) The pink shoes were so stinkin cute with it, but we're not sticking shoes on her until she stops sucking on her feet. Because she's never worn shoes before, she was fascinated with them. I like the shiny gladiator one we had to squeeze over her fat little foot with her painted toes peeking out. Oh, and due to the fact that she is a Shannon, her head circumference is naturally in the 98th percentile and therefore would not fit into any of the hats designed for babies... so we had to try an adult sized one.

Yes indeed ladies and gentlemen...she is blessed. Finally. Actually, it was on April 29th... we're just a little behind in blogging about it. We had a nice private blessing at home with a few friends and baby wore a sweet white onesie. (we had a nice white blessing dress from grandma vicki...but it was meant for a NEWBORN.) It was sweet, Matty was great, and baby enjoyed the attention.

There's always something going on outside our door. Last week it was a slip 'n slide birthday party complete with hot dogs and cake for all 200 kids and parents who showed up. (maybe it only seemed like 200... it was loud.) Baby girl is a bit too young for slip 'n slides, but seemed to enjoy the festivities as much as everyone else: she sat for over an hour watching all the big kids and squealing with delight every time anyone approached the door.

Oh and I did take her outside for a while to play...(in case any of you were feeling sorry for her rapunzel-like fate...)

recent or relatively new things going on in our lives (exciting or not):

-we (lindsay) have (has) instituted a new "bed time" policy of 10pm. laptops, books,whatever...as long as we're in bed at 10.

-walks: almost daily, not far, just foodland and back. baby LOVES her stroller.

-parker was officially welcomed to the family with a check from an anonymous set of great-grandparent's. it was headed for her college fund but ended up in MINE. sorry baby girl, we don't believe in handouts.

--last night it happened...we've been waiting for this her whole life...she laughed hysterically for a solid 20 minutes. then she fell into a deep coma having been worn out by her new emotion. it was radical, but i think lindsay wants to post some video or something so she'll cover that story.

-new jobs: yep, jobs with an 's.' i got a job with matix a few weeks ago, doing some apparel design. mostly t-shirts but hopefully it will turn into something bigger... and i started shaping again, and people keep calling...yay. shaped 5 boards in one day last week...still have foam dust in my ears.

-our house is DESTROYED at the moment. we've inherited all kinds stuff as people around TVA are graduating and moving back to the mainland. curtains, tv's, lamps, storage bins...all kine of STUFF. we were stressing yesterday because we went in one afternoon from normal house to cluttered house with piles everywhere and trails weaving through those piles so you could get from room to room. we also decided to reorganize all of our closets and drawers, and then to rearrange the whole house...we really shoulda picked another day to start those projects.

-the semester ended on friday. i'm soo over last semester that it hurts me to even say that i had a last semester.

-we're finally taking some family photos with natalie on wednesday (it took me four tries to get that word spelled right). in preparation, lindsay has been laying out, and parker's been working on growing some hair to fill in her bald spots.

After 4 months of faithfully pooping an average of 2 to 3 times a day, baby girl decided she'd had enough. She was pooped out. Done. After the third day with no "movement", I started to get a bit worried about the possible poop volume to expect when she did decide to let it all out. I decided the logical thing to do was to try and anticipate the appearance of said poop and give her the opportunity to celebrate the big event on the big girl potty.

The novelty of the situation was apparently lost on her...she was happy for about two minutes. (personally, if I had toys to play with, I could spend lots of carefree time in the bathroom.)

Well, my experiment didn't work.

She waited until Matty was surfing the next day and I was left with no backup to unleash it all into her poor inadequate diaper.

Holy Crap.

I was shocked and appalled.

How do you even begin to clean something like that up?!

The enormity of what she had done seemed to make her very happy. She just smiled up at me and squealed in delight at the horror on my face.

Dear Grandma & Grandpa,

My mother and I would very much like to see you, but I am afraid that my parents are a bit impoverished at the moment. Here are some current pictures of me in case you may have forgotten how adorable I am. What I'm asking is this: if you happen to come into any unexpected money in the near future, please think of me and of my desire to cross this ocean to see you. Oh and don't forget my mom cuz I can't travel alone yet.

If you decide to fly me out, I promise to be as cute and charming in person as I am in these pictures. I promise to smile, laugh, and generally entertain you all day long. I will let you kiss and munch my cheeks and snuffle my neck, (I know you like to do that grandpa...), and I will try and only poop my pants and do other unsightly and unattractive things when my mom is holding me...(though I've been told my farts are funny). My mom also said that she will let you take care of me in the middle of the night when I decide I don't want to sleep, and will let you snuggle me in the morning while she sleeps.

In the meantime, maybe have a garage sale, or try the lotto...

she has these little pants in brown and blue. they hold more stuff than the pockets on lindsay's jeans. she's pretty equipped all the time now with those little essentials that you always seem to need but can't find, like the tv remote, car key, or her binky+whatever butt cream she happens to be sporting that day. the only downside being there's a little bit of gender confusion most of the time.... but that's what everyone said about me until i was 20, so big deal.

Root Canal- one really really long post.

so it takes me a really long time to get psyched up enough to go to the dentist...even when there is a gaping hole in my mouth with accompanying 24hour pain pulsing through my jaw and head. it took about two months to face it...and when we found out it was bad enough for a root canal, (which would cost around $1400), my mom figured out a solution (as usual.) flying us to california would cost half as much because her old home teacher would do it for free on his day off (thanks bro wilson.) so all we had to pay for was the airfare (thanks again mom!) we got a few days of pain for a few days of fun hanging in california with my mom and lil sisters. it was a really fun trip, maybe the the best trip we've had to northern california in a really long time. there's about three weeks of the year where everything is blossoming, the grass is green and it's just really pretty. somehow we scored with the timing of our trip and woke up with this view from our bed (literally.)

i have two phobia's...and one is sitting in a dental chair. because of this irrational fear i usually get gassed, and when i do, i breathe deeply.

this thing is supposed to go on your nose, which is where i put it, breathing slowly and calmly until the dentist leaves the room. then it goes straight over the biggest orifice i can breathe through, and i inhale hard... usually passing out, but not often do i wake up to lindsay laughing and pointing a camera in my face.

i think this was the first intermission and baby had a stretch on the chair.

open wide and say "aahhh..."

spent lots of time around the house, playing with parker.

moms love babies.

grandmas love grand babies.

one of our favorite reasons we love visiting grandparents is because they love to take our psychotic un-sleeping baby around 5 in the morning, and happily sleep with her until whenever we wanna wake up (which happened to be early enough to snap a few photos of grandma with her bug.)

root canal aside, this trip was pretty awesome... thank you family for taking care of us and getting us out there.

it's taken a couple of weeks to post, but this was baby's second time swimming in the ocean. she seems to like it...or at least tolerate it for a while despite the cold winter water. unlike the first time, mommy learned her lesson this time and pulled her out before her limbs were like icicles...(oops!)

Avery's friend Taylor was kind enough to introduce her to the ultimate girly activity...barbies. Taylor tried to show her the basics: how to dress them, comb and style their hair, and walk them around while chatting in a singsong voice. She turned out to be a tougher pupil than Taylor expected. Her participation consisted mostly of looking around bewildered as the dolls rested on her chest.

whoever started the whole "sleeps like a baby" saying was either childless or just plain full of sh-t. why is she still staring at me? i'm bigger than her, and smarter than her... but she's definitely way more stubborn. we've been battling all night long, me and her. she screams if we put her down, or if her binky falls out of her mouth...which is every five minutes or every time i doze off , whichever comes first. i could only take an hour of dozing off and then waking up to one pissed off little girl screaming at me before i started looking for some caffeine but we're on this crazy yoga and vegetables kick lately, so there isn't anything to keep me awake. i popped one of those caffeine "enerjets" as a last ditch effort to keep my confidence and attentiveness high. we've done it all tonight- walked her all over our apartment complex in the dark, driven her around Laie, bounced and fed and paced endlessly around the living room. the caffeine has helped, i think i'm finally getting somewhere.

now that she's gagged and in her straight jacket and finally starting to relax, i'm wired and frustrated and tired at the same time. what's killing me though is why she's still glaring at me. so much disdain and resentment from those little laser beam eyes. she knows i've got her in submission, she should just tap out, but she's such a stubborn little girl. she's soo tired, you can see it, but she's fighting just to show me who's boss.

and a really old to-do list she keeps on our fridge had all kinds of things crossed off of it.

i always wanna do stuff like that for her when she's gone at yoga, but its sooo hard to do while you're constantly trying to keep a baby happy. i don't know how she does the stuff she does, especially with the little amount of time she has and the little amount of sleep she gets. its funny that all i can do is tell her how cool she is, give her a pat on the butt (because she loves that,) and write a cheesy blog post so everyone else in web-land knows it too.

San Diego- blowouts and baths

we can't figure out why, but lately baby has had some pretty mental diaper blowouts. i think almost all of them have actually happened on lindsay's lap. we've decided that rather than give her endless amounts of wet wipe showers, baths are nice and she kind of loves them. these are the photos and video from blowout number three.

San Diego- Seaworld

seaworld. until recently, my only memory of seaworld was linked to the "yo mamma" jokes i had heard in middle school(yo momma's so fat she had to get baptized at seaworld, etc). this park is waaay more fun than it sounds. somehow, the tickets mom got us for christmas are two year passes, so we park for free and can go whenever we want for the next two years. we've been showing up almost everyday after dark, an hour or two before the park closes and scoring all the rides and ocean animals with minimal crowds. its been really fun just to bundle up with jackets and gloves and strap baby to your belly to keep her warm.

baby had a blowout, and this place is not diaper changing friendly. we tried our best to get it done in some dark and empty park. things were going smoothly until the shamu show ended and our quiet little secluded diaper change spot became the sea world foot traffic super highway. the worker seemed to be feeling pretty weird about the whole situation, and even weirder about somebody photographing it all

San Diego- sunsets and babysitters

this was our first night in mission beach. i don't think i've ever really spent any time here, but i gotta say, this place is way more beautiful than either of us expected. coming from hawaii to the mainland can often times leave you a little jaded, but sunsets like these have become the evening standard. this night, lindsay and i went for a bike ride, and i happened to snap this photo right over her shoulder as it all started to get dark. this is only the end of the first day and we were already worried that this week would go by way too fast. its been fun to have so many competent babysitters here to just leave the little bug with while we go out and do things by ourselves for a few hours. we've gone on a few solo bike rides, i got a couple of surfs in already, and the aunts back at the beach house are just sooo happy to watch baby. i think we're in for a fun week.

quit draining my battery

in our family, there are five macbooks. all are here in san diego for christmas. somehow with so many laptops there are only two chargers, and everyone seems to always use mine. i'll find my computer, open it up and find the battery in the red, with five minutes left before it dies. so annoying. i've complained openly several times. earlier today i opened it up again, and whoever the last person to drain my battery was, left their facebook open...suckers. they got theirs, then again today my other sister left her blogger account open (no battery left.) i was gonna do something awful on her blog, but then after reading her latest post, realized we couldn't humiliate them by writing about her most recent bowel movement, or something awful like that.

Parker is quite fond of showing off her legs so she chose her ankle. She was pretty tough and didn't even cry whilst getting "inked". Next week we're getting our noses pierced...

our sweet little princess is only that way until feeding time- thats when jekyll meets hyde. its like something you'd see during shark week on the discovery channel. breast milk sets her off into a panicked frenzy of clawing and grunting and snorting. she pants, she scowls, and even growls at us if we pull her off to burp her. after fifteen minutes of milk flying everywhere and legs franticly kicking, we're left with a comatose baby... drunk, and covered with milk.

Breastmilk seems to have a narcotic effect on our baby. She drifts into a semi-awake but completely unresponsive state for a solid 5-10 min after eating...zombie eyes, drool, the whole nine yards. I think she gets it from matty. We find it entertaining to mess with her when she's like this... I wish the video was longer but the battery died.

We're trying to keep her on somewhat of a feeding schedule, which means that we have to wake her up occasionally to eat. You would think that waking an infant would be a cinch...it's not. If she's not COMPLETELY awake, she'll just fall right back to sleep as soon as she starts nursing. Hence, here we have the floor method. I find it pretty entertaining...though I don't think she is a fan.

tons has happened over the past few weeks, and the longer we put off writing about it, the more we forget. the most memorable things this week have been the things we'd rather forget, which is why it makes no sense to write about them...but we're going to anyway.

its been a rough week for baby...she's been a pissed off little girl, understandably.

diaper rash: not just a little red and irritated but huge lumps of raised skin in between her buns. it was bad...like her left butt cheek was allergic to the right one.

soccer ball to the face: total freak accident. we were right outside the front door, lindsay is holding super cute sleeping baby and out of nowhere a soccer ball drops out of the sky and lands on parker's face. it was traumatic to say the least. baby cried, lindsay cried, daddy lost all composure completely... i literally would have kicked a 6 year old in the balls if he was closer. then i would have gone to jail, so i guess it worked out for the best. baby was soo sad all night, and so were we.

pipe-masters: mick fanning is the new world champ. i've waited all year for this day. i heard it was epic. at least thats what lindsay told me. and then pike told me. and then my boss told me. i was driving all over the island cleaning carpets in the one work van with no air-conditioning and windows that are stuck closed. lindsay spent five hours at pipe with the pikes and the baby. even though she had parker in the shade, baby got a little pink faced...ooops. trial and error- learning how to be parents this way can be really tragic.

Here's a little update: lindsay is feeling TONS better, but had to deal with some insane swelling in her feet and ankles. for a few days she looked like the elephant woman, but i loved her anyway. baby's hair and her eyes are getting lighter every day, but her skin is dry and coming off in scales the size of corn flakes. like a lizard, or a snake. i know, its kind of yucky, but kind of fun- we switch off peeling her flakey skin with tweezers. its kind of like that thing monkeys do to groom each other.

the day after yesterday...day 2

being parent's brings all kinds of glorious "new sensations," as erin morgan would say. i don't know if being a parent automatically makes you more patient and calm, or if we're just generally entertained all the time. there were some potential freak out opportunities today. we sat in a room with nothing but a baby and a carseat for 5 hours, waiting to be checked out of the hospital. everything was packed in the car, we were hungry and tired, and the hands on the clock were moving sooo fast. normally i'd be freaking out after the twenty minutes, lindsay would be freaking out after the second hour, but we played with our baby the whole time and were pretty happy. who knew poop and breast feeding could be so fun.

we didn't get home until around 5ish. home felt like home more than ever, except for how entertained we are all the time, we haven't even turned our tv on. our baby is too small for EVERYTHING. carseat, diapers, onesies, everything. her pacifier looks more like its meant to protect her from swine flu than for calming her down. even her little wrist and ankle hospital bands have fallen off.

our room (or cell) is about 24x12 and parker isn't allowed outside the door, so we spent most of our first day together watching tv and having mommy/daddy/baby snuggles on lindsays big electric bed (click here for the visual). baby met auntie rachel and manny, the pikes, coach carter, and scotty and jodie. parker has perfect manners and baby etiquette. she was held by a lot of new people today, and somehow managed to contain her barfing and butt eruptions for when mommy and daddy were holding her. she never cries, and is always awake and looking around. i know it is only day one, but she's been ten million times easier than we anticipated.

lakers vs. rockets

parker shares a common passion with me and uncle cory: watching the lakers lose. the highlight was when kobe got blocked, then picked, then dunked on in the same possession. she even spit up a little bit each time they had the ball. there was an office marathon that ate up some of our late morning to early afternoon and inspired rachel to style parker's hair to resemble our favorite character. click here for that photo.

lindsay has been amazing. she's so happy and positive...and bleeding and swollen and miserable. she can't get comfortable, or get out of bed, and going to the bathroom has mostly been a group effort. by far, the hardest thing has been trying to nurse her "little piranha."

its officially the twelfth hour- literally and figuratively. dr. chapman just came in and checked lindsay. she's almost a 9. suddenly i feel really weird about this whole situation. this just got really real, really quick. where have i been for the last ten months? how have i not even toyed with the idea of being a real dad until just now? is it normal to meet up with reality this late in the game? i'm starting to feel the nausea and that holy shit feeling, meanwhile lindsay is still in la-la land, chasing rainbows and riding unicorns around our delivery room. i'm gonna preemptively take some xanax so i'm solid like a rock for lindsay when the pushing starts.

I love hospitals. I love nice nurses that hold your hand and rub your back when you are hurting. I love lots of pillows. I love epidurals (after they are working...). I love anesthesiologists. I LOVE drugs that kill pain. I love laying around all day watching TV and napping. I love my husband. I love not feeling contractions. I really love catheters. I love sneaking food when I'm not supposed to have any. I love ice chips. I love it when my husband puts my heartbeat monitor on his finger for 10 min so I can type and play on the computer without the nurses thinking I died...

not much new. just lots of napping actually. i went to arby's so i'm not hungry anymore...i guess thats new. lindsay has just been sleeping. she's been snoring, which she never does. she also has been wearing this oxygen mask which muffles her snore into sounding like darth vader. it was funny for awhile, then it got out of control, but i put on some music to cover it up. we're gonna slow down the pace of posting from hourly to just whenever something happens...

ps...i happen to know that she loves it when i take photos of her sleeping.

the real deal...(part VI- "getting ripe")

things have kind of gone back to boring. except for the pushing part, then the raising of a completely dependent, helpless little baby part, all the exciting stuff already happened. for now and possibly the next several hours, we're just waiting for lindsay to get "ripe." ripening of the cervix. yes, thats what they call it. I can't even make up a more horrible word or phrase to describe what is going down there. while lindsay is getting "ripe," however long that takes, she's blissfully chewing on ice, watching that 70's show, while her body does all the work for her. she keeps saying "i feel sooo good." i think she means "sooo much better."

the real deal...(part V- "van the man")

things got crazy in here for about twenty minutes, then Van "the man," the anesthesiologist came in and got to work. lindsay's epidural was heavenly...for her. i was freaking out. i tried to play it cool and grabbed the closest chair and layed back in it like i just didn't care. really, i almost lost it. when he pulled out the needle and started looking for the gap, everything went white, and i felt my eyes start to gravitate towards the back of my head, and my legs started to shake. luckily i landed in that chair perfectly, played it cool, tried to carry on some jovial conversation... lindsay is in heaven now. she's so relaxed, and doesn't even have to get up to pee anymore. yah they took care of that too. i think its nap time for lindsay, i'm gonna hit the all vegetarian cafeteria down stairs while she sleeps, then maybe we'll bust this baby out. oh and to add to the list of weird things hospital staff say our nurse just poked her head in and said "oh my gosh! nice urine!"

whoa...so much has happened in the last hour. we're at the "oh shit!" stage... i guess the labor pain is outweighing the boredom pain. they broke her water and are calling up "the man" to get the epidural started. lindsay just said she wants "to meet the woman who wants to have a natural birth so she can punch her in the face." she's pretty feisty. i've realized i don't need to keep asking "are you ok?" mostly its because every time i ask if she's ok, she screams something like "oh shit!" in between the crazy pain, she's changing channel's on the tv, then muting it every two minutes for another burst of insanity. "where the hell is he? go find him faster!" what can i say, mike and amy raised their daughter to swear like a sailor when in pain. good job guys. we're gonna pass on the photo op at this point, mostly to avoid a picture of lindsay giving me the bird.
